BAE Systems Detica certified by GCHQ and CPNI

Detica will help companies respond to sophisticated cyber attacks

By Duncan Macrae

BAE Systems Detica has been named by GCHQ’s Information Assurance arm CESG and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) as one of a select group of companies on a newly launched Government scheme that will provide organisations with access to expertise on how to respond effectively to sophisticated, targeted cyber attacks.

The Cyber Incident Response scheme follows on from the successful pilot conducted by CESG and CPNI which began in November 2012. BAE Systems Detica was one of only four companies certified to participate in the pilot, which was designed to set the future standards for cyber response services.

Detica’s management feels that the firm’s successful transition from pilot member to full scheme member reflects its knowledge and experience in providing cyber response services. The company has a 40-year heritage working in UK national security and helps organisations manage all aspects of cyber risk from start to finish, so that key decision makers can prepare for, protect against, monitor for and respond effectively to serious cyber security incidents.

Detica’s dedicated incident response team uses specialist tools and knowledge of attackers’ methods to uncover and investigate advanced attacks, providing a unique blend of business and forensic skills and a response in hours. Organisations’ most valuable data is secured and the removal of both attacker and threat ensured.

Martin Sutherland, MD of BAE Systems Detica, said: "Whether cyber attackers have been covertly conducting reconnaissance in an organisation’s network for months, or whether they have just breached the defences, once the intruder is discovered, organisations understandably want to take immediate action to mitigate their risk exposure.

"The Cyber Incident Response Scheme should act as a timely reminder of the agility with which attackers operate and the need for an even more agile and fast response to combat the threat. The scheme provides organisations with access to quality-assured, certified providers, enabling them to know who they can trust when time is of the essence.

"Creating this network of trusted suppliers helps strengthen the cyber defences of the country as a whole and ensures that the networks of organisations of national significance are protected against the most targeted and sophisticated threats. We’re delighted to be welcomed onto the scheme, following the success of the pilot."
