BA signs multi-million pound outsourcing deal

British Airways has signed a multi million pound outsourcing deal with NIIT Technologies, for the support and testing of business critical applications across various areas of the global airline.

By Jason Stamper

The three year deal is one of the largest ever to be signed by NIIT Technologies within the UK airline industry, and follows a twelve year relationship between the two companies.

The deal comes as the airline industry has come under increasing pressures from rising costs of fuel, the credit crunch and falling consumer confidence. British Airways has undertaken a cost mitigation exercise with their global partners to reduce costs and maintain competitive.

“[NIIT Technologies] have proven to be a flexible, reliable partner evolving with our business and the technology trends within the airline industry,” said Mike Doyle, British Airways IT application support manager.

NIIT Technologies says it is ranked number one in IT and business process outsourcing in the Black Book for travel 2008. In 2008, the Black Book Travel Industry user survey investigated 200 contracts held by 1,200 of the top airlines, travel agencies, airports, hotel chains, cargo companies and other travel corporations globally.
