Advanced threat detection technology developer, Attivo Networks has raised $8m in a round of funding led by Bain Capital Ventures to increase its investment in product development and support.

The company has created a new, advanced solution that reduces the time required to detect BOTs, a sophisticated type of crimeware capable of performing various malicious functions, along with detection of advanced persistent threats (APTs) that can steal valuable information from clients and servers.

The company said that its next phase of growth will build upon its current traction with customers in the banking, technology, and healthcare sectors.

Bain Capital Ventures MD Enrique Salem said: "Attivo’s solution traps BOTs and APTs that bypass an enterprise’s traditional perimeter defences.

"Attivo’s technology represents the most elegant solution to a top-of-mind problem for enterprises."

Attivo also announced changes in its ITS management with the appointment of former Symantec President and CEO Enrique Salem as a member of Attivo’s board of directors.

Salem was with Symantec for nearly two-decades, and he has experience of working with high-technology corporations in senior leadership roles.
