The US Justice Department’s (DOJ) antitrust case against AT&T’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile has been delayed by US District Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle in Washington, following a request from both sides.
AT&T has until Jan. 12 to file a report with the court explaining whether it is keen on buying T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for the trial scheduled on Feb. 13.
AT&T said in a statement that is committed to working with Deutsche Telekom to find a solution that is in the best interests of their respective customers, shareholders and employees. "We are actively considering whether and how to revise our current transaction to achieve the necessary regulatory approvals so that we can deliver the capacity enhancements and improved customer service that can only be derived from combining our two companies’ wireless assets," the company added.
AT&T had proposed to purchase of T-Mobile USA for $39bn. If the deal falls apart, AT&T had agreed to pay T-Mobile about $4bn charge to cover up.
