Apple’s iPhone 4S, released in October, was clearly the best selling phone in the holiday season up to December 9 in the UK, according to market research firm GfK’s study reported by the Financial Times.

Samsung’s Galaxy SII took the second spot, followed by BlackBerry.

However, Nokia with its Lumia Windows Phone 7 handsets did not capture consumers’ imagination, as it failed to figure in the top 10 selling phones during the four weeks covering the study.

The performance of iPhone brand was strong overall, as five versions of the phone appeared in the top 15 handsets sold during the first week of December.

Samsung claimed it sold 300 million phones sold in 2011 and said its Samsung Galaxy S2 was the second best-selling phone, only behind the 4S in the last month.

But if one takes into account the sales of Android phones, they sold more than double the number of Apple phones.
