Apple unveils developer preview of OS X Mavericks

The new OS comes with more than 200 new features and brings Maps and iBooks to the Mac.

Apple has unveiled the developer preview of OS X Mavericks, the tenth release its operating system (OS) for the Mac with more than 200 new features.

Features of the new OS include Maps and iBooks to the Mac, Finder Tags and Tabs, enhances multi-display support for power users, offers new core technologies for better power efficiency and performance as well as a new version of Safari.

Scheduled to be available for the users from fall this year, Apple has added new mapping technologies from iOS to the Mac that will offer vector graphics, view and Flyover as well as an option to send the trip plan from y Mac to iPhone.

The OS has iBooks that provides access to the current iBooks library along with over 1.8 million titles in the iBooks Store and read a book the Mac.

Having new power user features, the OS features Tags to organise and find files on the device or in iCloud, finder Tabs, the menu bar and dock on any display, and allows users to run windowed or full-screen apps.

According to the company, the new core technologies in OS X Mavericks improve the energy efficiency and responsiveness of Mac, the Timer Coalescing groups low-level operations and the App Nap which will reduce the power consumed by unused apps.

Additionally, the OS X Mavericks features include iCloud Keychain, an updated Calendar, interactive Notifications, and Xcode 5 that can measure different aspects of app performance and energy use, as well as app testing.
