Over half of BlackBerry users are looking at jumping ship to Apple devices following the outage the hit the service recently, a survey carried out by CBR has revealed.
CBR polled 307 BlackBerry users, surveyed amongst CBR’s senior IT decision-maker audience, and found that 58% were looking at either an iPhone or iPad as an alternative to BlackBerry devices.
Google’s Android was the next most popular option, with 28% looking at that, with Windows Phone and "other" back on 7%.
CBR has already revealed that 18% of BlackBerry users are in the process of moving away from the platform, while a further 34% believe they should consider switching to an alternative mobile platform.
Of those that were already in the process of making the move away from BlackBerry, an overwhelming 73% were moving to Apple devices, with 23% going to Android and the rest divided between Windows Phone and "other".
The 34% that now believe they or their company should look to move away from BlackBerry are also casting envious eyes towards Apple’s products. The majority (73%) picked Apple devices as their destination of choice, followed by Android (20%) and Windows Phone (7%).
Research in Motion (RIM) suffered a four-day outage earlier this month following a "core switch failure" in its UK operations. Services across EMEA, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina and eventually the US and RIM’s homeland of Canada were affected, knocking out web, email and BlackBerry Messenger services for millions of users.
RIM has since offered users free premium apps from its App World as compensation, although it remains to be seen if the company will also make financial payments to any affected parties.
