Apple has released an update for its operating system versions of OS X Lion, Mountain Lion and, Mavericks to protect the operating system from the Bash bug.
However, the update is not capable of fixing all the Shellshock exploits.
An Apple spokesperson said: "The vast majority of (Macintosh) OS X users are not at risk to recently reported ‘Bash’ vulnerabilities.
"With OS X, systems are safe by default and not exposed to remote exploits of Bash, unless users configure advanced Unix services."
The vulnerability was found in BSD-based Linux and Mac OS but according to Apple most of the systems were believed to be protected by default settings in the software.
Shellshock, which has already attacked thousands of servers, is capable of stealing information for hackers who can take control of the system from a remote location.
The UK Government’s cyber security has issued alerts and the US Government has warned users about the vulnerability in some systems that could be used for a widespread attack.
