Apple might launch a new product based on its location-aware native technology called iBeacon.

According to Apple’s filing with the US Federal Communications Commission, the hardware has a rounded hub-like shape with an on and off switch at the bottom, and a USB port.

The iBeacon technology was introduced along with iOS7 in 2013, which uses specialised Bluetooth 4.0 beacons and wireless data connectivity to provide location-based content services to iOS powered devices.

The technology allows apps to point precisely to where a user is located in relation to an iBeacon sensor.

With iOS 8, Apple added a technology to let the apps track the exact floor where users are located.

This system allows businesses to interact with their customers more effectively. According to reports, Walgreens and Walmart are testing the technology.

The document also reveals some technical information: it will be powered by a 5 volt power supply and will work on a 2.4GHz wireless frequency.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple might be creating the hardware to replace the already existing iBeacon hardware being used in its stores.

It is also being predicted that Apple might create a centralised platform to sell the hardware to developers and retailers.

There is also a possibility that the tech giant might be creating the iBeacon hardware as a part of its upcoming HoneKit device but it is still to be confirmed by the company.
