Apple defends itself, says Siri is not anti-abortion

iPhone’s search service is unable to provide information about abortion clinics

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple is facing ire from abortion rights advocates over Siri, its iPhone search service, as it has been unable to provide information about abortion clinics.

The US National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL) president Nancy Keenan in a letter to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that Siri was a great tool that mixes humour and sarcasm in responding to questions. Keenan added,"In some cases, Siri is not providing your customers with accurate or complete information about women’s reproductive-health services."

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) also called on people to join a campaign urging Apple to "Set Siri straight."

Tim Cook responded to the criticism by saying their customers use Siri to find out all types of information and while it can find out a lot, it doesn’t always find out what you want.

According to Siri’s co-founder Norman Winarsky, the current issue lay not with Apple but with the third-party services that provided it with information.
