Apple has bought a British firm to improve Siri’s speech recognition just days after Microsoft released Cortana, its own voice assistant.

Staff from Novauris Technologies will now be working with the iPhone manufacturer to bolster Siri, after the acquisition was completed this week.

Novauris’s applications and services are said to be capable of searching on-device content such as contacts, apps, music, translation and also assist with navigation or search for content in a device’s App Store.

Novauris Technologies, which was formerly a part of the British research firm Dragon Systems, was founded in 2002.

Apple introduced Siri in 2011. You can read how it performs against Cortana and Google Now in CBR’s comparison article here.
