Apple acquires photo app startup SnappyLabs

SnappyLabs' SnappyCam enables iPhone to capture about 30 frames per second.

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple has acquired the Australian-based photo application startup SnappyLabs for an undisclosed sum.

SnappyLabs, which is a one-man startup, has developed photography application SnappyCam, that enables iPhones to capture about 30 frames of full-resolution images per second.

Following the transaction, Apple is expected to combine the photo app startup and integrate the app’s features into its smartphones.

The integration of features is expected to help the company to focus on smartphone imaging, which is currently of high interest to various device makers.

Apart from allowing the users to take more frames, the SnappyCam is said to provide the ability to zoom the camera to about six times as well as take pictures in different aspect ratios.

SnappyLabs was founded and run by John Papandriopoulos and it is reported to be one of the leading paid app in Apple’s App Store across 16 countries in 2013.
