Anixter partners with IBM to support PMDC

To offer network cabling and physical security infrastructrue

By CBR Staff Writer

Anixter said that it is participating in IBM’s modular data centre family of services with support for IBM’s Portable Modular Data centre (PMDC) rollout.

IBM’s container service provides a data centre complete with the IT equipment and physical infrastructure including cabling, racks and cabinets, UPS, cooling systems, intelligent patching and physical security. The open-architecture containers support equipment from multiple manufacturers and can be dropped into a range of environments, Anixter said.

Anixter said that it provides cabling, power, cooling, video surveillance, access control and intelligent infrastructure services such as intelligent patching and environmental monitoring and also offer technical assistance for rack and cabinet configurations.

According to Anixter, PMDC service targets users looking to deploy a data centre at remote, temporary or mobile locations. The computing environment can be expanded or relocated and can increase a data centre’s floor space without construction or create a repeatable environment for one or multiple sites.

Available in 20-, 40- and 53- foot containers, each PMDC can include N, N+1 or 2N redundancy throughout the data centre infrastructure and is capable of supporting a variety of data centre infrastructure environments. It is physically secure and resistant to water, humidity, external temperatures, RFI/EMF, fire and smoke, the company said.

Andy Jimenez, vice president of technology for enterprise cabling solutions at Anixter, said: By equipping the PMDC with the cabling infrastructure solutions, end-users receive a self-contained data centre solution that can quickly deliver functionality and capacity when and where it is needed.
