Android Wear to work with iPhone

The app will be rolled out to most next generation Android devices.

By CBR Staff Writer

Google is trying to bite a big share of the wearable market by making its Android Wear operating system compatible with Apple’s iOS mobile platform.

Google has already started rolling out Android Wear for iOS, which will allow users to pair their Android Wear with iPhones running in iOS 8.2 or above.

The move is expected to boost the sales of Android based smart watches as before it could not be paired with iPhone smartphones.

iPhone users will now be able to receive notifications, emails, Facebook updates, directions, info about fitness and make use of the "Ok Google" voice function from their Android based Watch.

However, the Android watch will not be able to communicate with all the apps installed on the iPhone, which is expected to create a roadblock for buyers.

The search giant expects the prices of the new range of Android watches compatible with the iPhone to range from $100 to $400, which is a lot less when compared to some Apple Watches that can cost up to $10,000.

Google said that Android Wear for iOS presently works with the LG Watch Urbane, and all future Android Wear watches, from companies like Huawei, Asus, and Motorola will support iOS in future.
