Google is likely to launch Android TV, a platform for television, during its I/O developer conference in San Francisco in June.
Android TV platform would enable television and set top box manufacturers to offer online media services and Android-based video games to users, reports Gigaom.
Android TV is similar to Google TV, which offers movies, TV episodes, YouTube channels, and apps. But while Google TV is limited to connecting the available pay TV services to apps, Android TV will bring together online services and apps.
Netflix and Hulu Plus, in addition to a select hardware partners, are likely to join Google at Android TV launch, reports Gigaom.
Android TV will have a simpler interface called Pano that can present the TV content on the home screen making it easy for the user to browse and choose.
The content, presented in card-like format will be connected to publisher’s apps, said the report.
Google currently has Chromecast and the not-so-popular Google TV in the TV arena.
