AMD, Aviary to develop photo editing tool for Windows 8

Aviary has launched an enhanced software development kit (SDK) for Windows 8.

By CBR Staff Writer

AMD and Aviary have collaborated to develop new version of photo editing tool for devices powered by Windows 8 operating system (OS).

Aviary has launched an enhanced software development kit (SDK) for Windows 8 to take advantage of AMD APU architecture that leverages the photo editing application in the OS.

The new SDK provides a library of photo editing effects and filters for incorporation of the photo editor into applications and which can be used in Windows 8 through the new compute language C++ AMP.

The application is optimised for AMD APUs and can process the complete range of filters and effects instantaneously with sixteen times faster speed compared to other processors, claims the company.

AMD Developer Solutions corporate vice president, Manju Hegde, said that Aviary is becoming the standard in mobile and online photo editing with over 3 billion photos edited thus far.

"By bringing Aviary to Windows 8, it enables the next billion photos across an even broader range of devices."

Aviary CEO, Tobias Peggs said that the company has built the SDK for photo editing, sharing and monetisation.
