Amazon Kindle Fire registers 250,000 pre-orders in five days: report

Apple had sold 300,000 iPads on its first day of sales in the US

By CBR Staff Writer

E-Commerce company Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire could break sale records in tablet market, with over 250,000 pre-orders in just five days after the tablet ws announced.

A blog, Cult of Android, says that it has the numbers to prove that the new tablet would break all other tablets’ launch day sales records, when it is released on 15 November.

The blog said that a "verified source within the Seattle based online retail company" has provided it with exclusive screenshots of Amazon’s internal inventory management system Alaska (Availability Lookup and SKU Aggregator).

The leaked screenshots show that orders for Amazon’s Android-based tablet are racking up at an average rate of over 2,000 units per hour, or over 50,000 per day, said the blog. This means that Amazon is on its way to register more than 2.5 million pre-orders for the Kindle Fire by the time it’s released.

Apple sold 300,000 iPads on its first day of sales in the US, while BlackBerry maker RIM’s Plyabook reported 490,000 sales in its entire first quarter.

Last Wednesday, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the company’s first-ever tablet last Wednesday. Built on the company’s Kindle reader design, the new tablet, at $199, is $300 cheaper than Apple’s cheapest available iPad 2.
