Chinese e-Commerce firm Alibaba will launch its own mobile operating system next week, joining league of illustrious firms like Google and Apple.

The Chinese firm will also unveil its first smartphone, at an event in Beijing next week, with decided going on sale in August.

Apparently dubbed the ‘Ali-phone’, the yet to be launched Smartphone is expected to offer a number of cloud applications along with pre-installed mapping and instant messaging software.

Cloud services allow users to access applications or store their data on remote servers instead of on their personal computers or handsets.

The phones will be manufactured by Beijing-based Tianyu Telecommunications Equipment Company and will powered by chips from US tech major Nvidia.

The phone is expected to be priced between CNY2,000 and CNY3,000 (about $300 to $450).

Alibaba, which is 43% owned by US search major Yahoo, is reportedly also in talks with manufacturers to expand beyond smartphones to other mobile devices like tablets.
