Alfresco enhances open source ECM offering

Designed to manage mobile content and streamline email management

By CBR Staff Writer

Alfresco Software has announced its Community Edition 3.2, which is now available for download. The company claims that, in addition to enabling mobile content management, streamlining email management and supporting open specifications and standards including CMIS and IMAP, the new application also offers records management support for US Department of Defense (DoD) 5015.2 certification in September 2009.

John Newton, CTO of Alfresco Software, said: “Lean times call for a lean, robust and inexpensive ECM system. Alfresco Community Edition 3.2 has been designed to reduce the cost of information handling while supporting corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Management.”

He further said: “Our aim has been to deliver a content services environment in which users can work the way they want, with the tools they want, enhancing productivity through workforce mobility and future proofing organisations’ content applications with CMIS.”

New features in its Community Edition 3.2 reportedly include: records management support, which is expected to enable companies to support the legal requirements needed to manage company information; and email client access and archiving via IMAP support to provide access to repository services without a client install that can be accessed from mobile devices.

The company said that the new software also offers support (SOAP web services, REST and Query) for version 0.61 of the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification, allowing CMIS compliant clients and repositories to interoperate and share content across information silos.

The company claims that the new software is cloud-ready for EC2 and other cloud service providers, and supports content collaboration outside the enterprise or in the cloud.
