Alcatel-Lucent provides 3G network security for laptops

Alcatel-Lucent plans to support high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA)-based 3G networks on its OmniAccess "always-on" laptop security and management system.

By CBR Staff Writer

OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, OA3500 NLG, has an HSDPA 3G card that remotely secures, monitors, manages and locates a mobile computer and protects its data if lost or stolen. It has its own processor, power supply, and operating system, enabling enterprises to manage laptops, even when the computer is turned off.

Alcatel-Lucent said European service providers with HSDPA networks can combine the OA3500 NLG with their 3G services to provide turnkey laptop security. It said IT departments will have 24/7 access to laptops and will be able to enforce policies for compliance, to protect and recover stolen devices, and to deliver patches and upgrades.

The OA3500 NLG is available now for CDMA networks. It will be commercially available later in 2008 for HSDPA networks through Alcatel-Lucent channels in Europe and 3G service providers.
