Design and desktop publishing software provider Adobe Systems has reported revenue of $757.3m in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009, down 17% compared to $915.3m in the same period last year.

Fourth quarter fiscal 2009 results include the impact of the company’s acquisition of Omniture. The company posted an operating income of $153.6m, compared to $273.2m in the same period last year and $167.6m in the third quarter of fiscal 2009. As a percent of revenue, operating income was 20.3%, compared to 29.8% in the same period last year.

For the fourth quarter ended November 27, 2009, the company reported a net loss of $32m, compared to net income of $245.9m reported in the same period last year.

For full fiscal year 2009, the company reported revenue of $2.94bn, compared to $3.58bn in the same period last year. Operating income was $690.5m compared to $1.02bn, while net income was $386.5m compared to $871.8m in fiscal 2008.

Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO of Adobe, said: “We experienced an improvement in customer demand for our products in Q4. We believe the investments we have made in the past year, and the new products we will deliver in the coming year, will drive top line growth as the economy improves.”

Looking ahead, the company is targeting revenue of $800m to $850m and operating margin to be 19% to 21% in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.
