Adidas joins smartwatch fray with new miCoach wristband fitness tracker

The gadget will hit the market five days ahead of Nike’s FuelBand SE launch.

By CBR Staff Writer

Adidas has launched a new smartwatch, dubbed ‘miCoach’ SMART RUN at GigaOm Mobilize conference in San Francisco, US.

The new wristband fitness tracker incorporates a colour touchscreen and an in-built heart monitor that studies the users’ (mainly runners) pulse and creates training programmes.

To be launched on 01 November, five days before the rival Nike’s FuelBand SE would hit the wrists of its early adopters, the new wristband fitness tracker incorporates a GPS location chip to make best use of the accuracy of its readings.

The new gadget will also offer partner apps for Android, Windows Phone and iOS devices, unlike Nike’s gadget that offers Fuelband app only for the iPhone.

Priced at $399, which is more than double the of the Nike’s $149 Fuelband, Adidas’s miCoach Smart Run boasts built-in GPS tracking in addition to Bluetooth, WiFi and an accelerometer.

It also comes with a wider range of sensors and allows listening MP3 audio files through Bluetooth headphones.

Adidas has collaborated with a design firm Fjord, which has been acquired by Accenture earlier this year.
