Actuate has launched a BIRT Mashboard app on the BIRT Exchange Marketplace, which is free to download as a one-click-install and enables users to create secure information mashups of BIRT, Actuate and any other web-based content with drag-and-drop simplicity.

The marketplace is an open software showcase on the most active online BIRT community, where developers can promote, share or sell BIRT-related applications, offerings and components. In bringing together multiple content sources with BIRT Mashboard, enterprise business users can maximise productivity by personalising critical information in a visually appealing canvas, the company claims.

According to Actuate, the BIRT Mashboard app enables business users to meet business challenges associated with centralising and monitoring information. It also enables businesses to gain visibility into multiple sources of data by providing with depth and dimension into corporate information with report creation, visualisations and analytic tools required to monitor and run rich information applications in the enterprise.

The company said that the BIRT Mashboard integrates with existing applications and infrastructure, and allows users familiar with BIRT to create architecture extended rich information application experiences. With AJAX-based user interface, users have access to portlet-to-portlet communication that synchronies data being displayed across multiple portlets.

The BIRT Mashboard app also features canvas usability that allows users to modify, save, rearrange or add portlets to a single web page or canvas; inter-portlet communication and awareness to change a value in one portlet and have it reflected in another.

In addition, the app features portlet minimise/maximise functionality allows users to hide or show the body of a portlet by clicking on the minimise/maximise icon in the portlet title bar; and global canvases for a single preconfigured canvas of portlets to be deployed to a community of users at once.

Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of marketing at Actuate, said: “We are excited see the BIRT Exchange Marketplace grow with new apps such as BIRT Mashboard and continue to galvanie the BIRT ecosystem and fueling its ongoing momentum.
