Actuate integrates with Hortonworks Sandbox

The integration offers advanced data visualisation for developers.

By Kate Heslop

Actuate Corporation, has announced its integration with the Hortonworks Sandbox for developers using BIRT.

In addition, Actuate has introduced an improved BIRT Hive Driver to make data access from Apache Hadoop into BIRT even easier.

The BIRT Apache Hive Driver utilises Hive queries to access data from Hadoop, pulling data sets into personalised and interactive BIRT-based visualisations.

Actuate presents data in a managed analytic environment, where it can be scaled across a vast number of users in a secure and controlled manner and delivered on any device.

John Kreisa, vice president of strategic marketing at Hortonworks commented on the announcement: "The Hortonworks Sandbox is the fastest way for anyone to learn Hadoop. By combining Actuate’s BIRT-based development platform with the Hortonworks Sandbox, developers have the quickest and easiest way to learn the benefits of the combined technologies."

The combination of BIRT and Hortonworks Data Platform aims to deliver insights about behaviour of customers and prospects as well as about internal processes. Developers can now build solutions through which big data can be used to engage with customers, partners and employees by using interactive charts, dashboards and scorecards, all in a secure environment.

Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of marketing at Actuate said: "We’re pleased to be furthering our alliance with Hortonworks through integration with the Hortonworks Sandbox. Hadoop is excellent at storing, processing and managing huge volumes of structured and unstructured data. When combined with Actuate’s BIRT visualisation capabilities, developers can now enable personalised insights from big data much more quickly."
