Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), said that it plans to help clients build virtual data centres and private computing clouds through a new, integrated IT cloud services offering.

The company said this new cloud offering, expected by spring 2010, will offer data centre services on a utility model and on-demand basis, for enterprise use and deployment of business applications.

ACS said it intends to build its new cloud offering utilising the Vblock 2 Infrastructure Package by the Virtual Computing Environment coalition, which was formed by Cisco and EMC together with VMware. In addition, it also plans to standardise the deployment of VMware View, at all of its customer data centres around the world.

According to ACS, the Vblock 2 Infrastructure Packages combine technology including Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS), Nexus 1000v and Multilayer Director Switches (MDS), EMC Symmetrix V-Max storage (secured by RSA), and the VMware vSphere platform.

Ken Stephens, senior vice president for ACS, said: “Emerging technologies continue to have a profound impact on how enterprises consume IT from both a cost and business alignment perspective, and the IT services market continues to be redefined by these technologies.

“ACS has always tailored IT services to meet our clients’ changing business needs, and our newest cloud solution, based on a unified computing approach, will accelerate our clients’ journey toward further adoption of cloud services.”
