Acer has unveiled two Android-based tablets and a Windows 7 tablet for early 2011 release, which the company says will compete with Apple iPad and other Android-based tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The company is reportedly planning to launch the 7-inch and 10.1-inch tablets in April 2011, while a 10.1-inch tablet running Windows 7, with front- and rear-facing cameras is expected to be launched by February 2011, according to eweek.com. All three devices will feature WiFi and 3G.
Acer now faces a conundrum in the burgeoning tablet market, with companies such as Apple and Samsung are making significant forays into that space, with others, including Acer competitors Dell and Hewlett-Packard poised to join the fray in coming months.
According to a recent data from Strategy Analytics, while the iPad holds some 95.5% of the worldwide tablet market, the general expectation is that proliferating Android tablets will begin to seize a higher percentage in coming months.
The website reported that some analysts seem more convinced of tablets’ weighing down the notebook market.
Acer is planning to play its part irrespective of whether the tablet market continues to grow cannibalisation-free, or if it impacts sales of netbooks.
