Computex, kicking off tomorrow in Taipei, is the largest ICT trade show in Asia and second-largest in the world. This year celebrating its 35th edition, the event attracts over 1700 exhibitors. Unsurprisingly, this generates a lot of announcements, so CBR has rounded up what’s already been said and what’s still to come.

1. Asus

Asus has hit Computex hard with a range of new products, including the most explicitly selfie-driven phone ever, the Asus Zenfone Selfie. The key feature is the 13 MP front-facing camera, specs which are usually reserved for the main camera. The Taiwanese electronics vendor also demonstrated the ZenWatch 2, a smartwatch running Android Wear technology, as well as two ZenPad tablets. In addition, the event saw the launch of the ProArt PA329Q UHD Monitor, a high-performance computer screen.

2. Acer

Acer will be showcasing new and updated tablets, wearables and PCs. The 2015 refresh of the Aspire Z Series includes the Aspire Z3-710 and ZC-700. The original Acer Chromebox has been refreshed with better processors and specs. Acer will showcase the Acer Aspire Switch 11 V, a two-in-one convertible tablet and new Android tablets, the Iconia One 8 (B1-830) and Iconia One 7 (B1-760 HD).

Wearables on display include the Leap Active, Leap Fit and Leap Curve. Acer will also display the abPBX plus communications solution, a multimedia private branch exchange system, the abConsole switchboard client for operators and mobile device clients and aBeing One, a development platform for IoT applications.

3. Intel

Intel‘s senior vice-president and general manager of the Client Computing Group Kirk Skaugen is giving the opening keynote tomorrow. There is also a specific Intel IoT media briefing on 3 June. It’s been confirmed that Intel and Microsoft will hold forums to showcase their Broadwell processors, new platform, Skylake, and Windows 10 devices. Skylake is the next-gen series of Core family processors, set for release later this year.

4. NVIDIA

Gamers of the world rejoice: NVIDIA is using the event to launch its NVIDIA’s latest GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphics card. The latest addition to the GTX family is said to be up to three times fast than the current GTX 680. It features 6GB of memory and enough CUDA cores to run games at 4K. It also carries support for Microsoft’s next-generation DirectX 12 graphics API.

5. ARM

British chip manufacturer ARM will be showing off its new hardware subsystem to enable chip development for connected devices. The ARM IoT subsystem for ARM Cortex-M processors is optimised for use with ARM’s processor and radio technologies, physical IP and ARM mbed operating system. Partners can integrate sensors and other peripherals to create complete system-on-chips.

And much more…

Sandisk has also launched a range of new storage products, covered in detail elsewhere on CBR. Although Computex is primarily a hardware event, Microsoft will be present to demonstrate how the upcoming Windows 10 platform will work with its hardware partners. Nick Parker, Microsoft Corporate Vice President responsible for device partnerships, will deliver a keynote titled ‘Windows enables new devices & experiences’ on 3 June to discuss Microsoft’s strategy.
