346.2 million mobile handsets shipped in 3Q-2010: ABI Research

Apple and RIM market-shares increase to 4.1% and 4% respectively

The mobile handset market has notched up 346.2 million in handset shipments in 3Q-2010 and is set for a stellar performance in 2010, according to ABI Research.

The research firm said the mobile handset market has experienced a y-o-y growth of around 20% for the first three quarters of the year.

Smartphones vendors RIM, Apple, HTC and Motorola’s growth in market-share outperformed the market.

ABI Research expects this effect to continue into 4Q-2010 and 2011.

According to the market researcher, Apple and RIM have increased their market-shares to 4.1% and 4% respectively.

While Samsung demonstrated quarterly growth (to 20.6%), other vendors contracted: Nokia (31.9%), LG (8.2%), Sony-Ericsson (3%), Motorola (2.6%).
