SoftQuad International Inc has released version 2.0 of its now instantly upgradable HotMetal Pro Internet publishing software. It is designed to enable anyone to create Web pages without prior knowledge of HyperText Markup Language, HTML. To keep up with the constantly evolving motion of HyperText Language, SoftQuad offers a Modular Rules File which contains the latest HyperText Language extensions that are created every time a new Web browser is introduced. Users will be able to download new Modular Rules Files free of charge from SoftQuad’s Internet site. Support for Java applets and the latest version of Netscape Navigator will be included. To accommodate the non-technical, HotMetal is designed to enable marketing departments to create Web pages with the presentation standards of the company on the Internet. HotMetal has tool bars for point and click page design, including point and click hypertext linking. Users write their copy within special line tags which contain the necessary instructions to turn the copy into a Web page. Existing word processing documents in Word, WordPerfect and AmiPro can be published on the Internet in a few seconds, SoftQuad says. HotMetal comes in Windows, Macintosh and Unix formats for an introductory $195.
