Softlab Ltd has won a contract with British Gas Plc’s Quality & IS Directorate to implement the company’s Maestro II CASE environment for its Core Systems: the deal, estimated to be worth UKP1.4m, is eyecatching because it means Softlab has won out over Information Architechs Ltd, the CASE company that was spun out of British Gas’s own development department; however, Andrew May, marketing director of Information Architechs concedes that while it would have been better for him if Architech had been chosen, his CASE environment is used by British Gas in the North East; the big British Gas CASE decision is due in August when a standard development environment will be chosen – Maestro, Architech and Texas Instrument Inc’s Information Engineering Facility are thought to be contenders.
