Softbridge Microsystems Corp has announced the UK launch of Bridge/386, a software integration tool enabling multiple applications to be integrated under a single user interface. Running on Intel 80386-based microcomputers, it forms a link between Microsoft Windows and MS-DOS microcomputers and can operate over any NetBIOS-compatible local area network. Bridge is an interactive control language designed to support easy integration of multiple applications, running under MS-DOS and Windows, without complex programming. It enables in-house and off-the-shelf software, such as dBase III, Excel and Word, to be integrated on job-specific work-stations with users having full control of each underlying application. Bridge provides a way to create personal computer-based workstations and integrated applications in a window environment allowing old and new MS-DOS and Window applications to be mixed together. The system seemed to be easy for anyone to use and allows an easy switch between Microsoft Windows and Word as well as enabling two or more MS-DOS programs to share data during multitasking operations. The developer’s tool kit costs UKP700 and the Bridge/386, which includes the 80286 version is $125. Bridge will be sold directly through Softbridge’s own sales team and if this is successful a telemarketing programme will follow. Softbridge is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and employs over 260 people, a third of which are based in Europe. Services include consulting, development of information systems, vertical market information as well as microcomputer-based software integration. The company specialises in systems for telecommunications, transport, insurance, banking and securities companies and claims that 35% of dealers in Eurobonds/Swaps use Softbridge software.
