Social networking and e-commerce site Lockerz has acquired photo-sharing site Plixi, formerly known as TweetPhoto.

Plixi, which lets users to share photos online and through their mobile devices, will soon be renamed as Lockerz Photos, the company said.

More than 300 developers have reportedly integrated Plixi’s photo sharing technology with more than 67 million API (application program interface) requests daily.

Lockerz CEO Kathy Savitt said the acquisition will help the social site to offer the photo-sharing experience to its members and enable them to comment on or rate the photos.

The new photo site will include new media sharing features and add celebrity content in future, Lockerz said.

Plixi is reportedly the photo sharing site that celebrities such as pop star Justin Bieber use for communication.
