Snapchat has started rolling out ads in its ‘recent updates’ section, just weeks after a huge controversy over online leak of images and videos online.

As part of the new service, the company rolled out first ad for upcoming movie Ouija in the US.

Assuring not to be ‘rude’ to its members, Snapchat noted: "We won’t put advertisements in your personal communication – things like Snaps or Chats. That would be totally rude.

"We want to see if we can deliver an experience that’s fun and informative, the way ads used to be, before they got creepy and targeted."

Further, users can even ignore ads, which will, however, automatically fade away upon being viewed or within 24 hours time.

"Understandably, a lot of folks want to know why we’re introducing advertisements to our service. The answer is probably unsurprising – we need to make money. Advertising allows us to support our service while delivering neat content to Snapchatters."

"We promise that we’ll use the money we make to continue to surprise the Snapchat community with more terrific products – that’s what we love to do!"

Private images of Snapchat users were put online after an alleged attack on an image database, Snapsaved.com, which saves user Snapchats.

Earlier this year, user names and phone numbers of about 4.6 million Snapchat accounts were also leaked and were temporarily posted online.
