Smiths Industries Plc – it makes the instruments that go into the dashboard of your car – has snatched Lear Siegler Avionic Systems from under GEC Plc’s nose, agreeing to pay $360m or so for the business: GEC fans point out that the top brass is in the US right now and that we should be looking for another – civil, not military – acquisition over there, in the UKP200m price bracket or thereabouts.
