Mobility market software provider Smith Micro Software has reported a fall in revenue to $16.1m for the second quarter 2011, compared to $31.4m in the year ago quarter.

The company notes that the quarter revenues were in-line with management guidance and it is expanding its product portfolio to align with changing demand.

Second quarter gross profit on a GAAP basis was $12.5m, compared to $27.4m reported in the second quarter of 2010.

GAAP gross profit as a percentage of revenue was 77.9% for the second quarter of 2011, compared to 87.4% for the same quarter last year.

Non-GAAP gross profit remained strong at 85.7% for the second quarter of 2011, though it was 92.3% for the same quarter last year.

Non-GAAP net loss was $5.2m or $0.15 per share, compared to net income of $6.8m or $0.20 per share for the second quarter of 2010.

The company reported revenue of $33.9m for the first six months, compared to $61.2m for the same period last year.

GAAP gross profit was $26.6m for the six months ended June 30, 2011, compared to $53.5m for the six months ended 30 June 2010.

Smith Micro forecasts that its revenues for the third fiscal quarter of 2011 will be between $15m to $20m.
