The company, which recently launched a mobile video service that offers audio and video to wireless phone subscribers, has partnered with Digital Music Video (DMV) Network to create an advertising-supported video channel that features current music artists.

SmartVideo said the new channel will stream rather than download music videos in an effort to accelerate the delivery and to provide better protection to copyright security.

The service will also be supported by advertisements and is free to consumers, who can access the service through smartphones or PDA’s that support SmartVideo’s mobile video service. DMV Network will offer its music video library to the program, with the intention of launching additional channels in the near future.

The videos will last a minimum of 15 frames per second (FPS) on current 2.5G wireless networks, and at 24+ FPS on new 3G networks.

The two companies hope the service, which is expected to launch early next month, will attract new subscribers and diversify revenue.
