Thousands of hospitals around the country use rolling medicine carts to keep critical medical drugs and syringes near patients. Traditionally, these carts are secured by either a metal lock-and-key or by a digital numeric keypad. SmartTouch’s new smartCart allows only authorized and enrolled medical practitioners such as physicians and nurses to access medications, syringes and other controlled instrumentalities in order to administer care.
The company says that future versions will include networked enrollment and communications with administrative supervisory controls with strict audit controls and proximity information.
