You won’t get far in French or German computing circles if you haven’t mastered such expressions as Le PME – for Petites et Moyennes Enterprises – and Mittleredatentechnik for small business computing, and we’re quite happy to trade same with our continental colleagues, and we’re equally delighted to welcome such useful French and German words as chic and Schadenfreude into English, but we were aghast to receive a missive from the European Commission that used Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the English version and thereafter proceeded to talk about SME: we reckon that Mrs T had better have another quiet word with Jacques Delors, and make it crystal clear to him that up with this we will not put.
