French start-up and user information system specialist SLP Statistiques SA has relaunched its US subsidiary, SLP Infoware Inc, in Dallas, to provide greater support for its US clients. The company began in the US in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1990- 91, but didn’t have enough technical support, says Jean Schmitt, president and founder. So, we have spent the last year building up a subsidiary that will hold up; with marketing and people with lots of experience selling these tools. The company, for instance, hired a former marketing and sales director from BBN Software Inc. The group of ex-researchers from France’s CNET National Centre for Telecommunications Research are marketing a series of software modules that enable users to build what Schmitt calls a a ‘user information system’ which, Combines the analytical power of a decision support system and the ease of use of executive information systems. US-based market analysts, he notes, understand immediately the market potential of the product. The company is considering its options for a new round of financing this half. It is talking to somewhere around 10 US venture capitalists, and it also eyeing France’s Nouveau Marche, which has yet to prove itself to Schmitt.
