Language Line Services, the aptly named provider of language services, and Voxeo, a standards-based VoIP and interactive voice response platform maker, have launched a joint product with Skype that enables companies to translate calls from English.

Within seconds, a Skype subscriber can now be on the phone in up to a five-way conversation with other Skype users and a live interpreter.

The so-called Language Line Personal Interpreter is a pay-as-you-go-service that is available at all times for $2.99 a minute.

The way it works is Language Line’s Personal Interpreter Service uses Voxeo’s Prophecy voice platform to automate the process of transferring the call from Skype to Language Line Services.
