Sky News has launched its official iPad app.

The company said that the app, which involved Publicis Modem in its design, offers live and on-demand video, text stories, photo galleries and interactive graphics.

The rewind feature is a key feature. With it one can watch the Sky News channel live, but "rewind" in case they have missed some part. Sky said it will also add stories to the app’s on-demand video library.

Sky News head John Ryley said having delivered content across digital, online and mobile, iPad was the next logical platform on which to break new ground.

Ryley said, "With more and more of our viewers embracing mobile devices to stay connected to the news, the launch of Sky News for iPad is one of the most important developments in Sky News’ history."

Sky has seen 10.2 million downloads of its iPhone and iPad applications on Apple’s App Store so far.

The app is free to download for all iPad users for a limited period.
