The Korean firm held its inaugural meeting on March 5, 2001 where it announced it would SK Telecom plans to launch 3G service in Korea in 2002. Attending the meeting were representatives from each of the 676 companies that have an equity stake in SK IMT.

In this connection, newly-appointed CEO Kang Yong-soo said to the press, The equity holding partners will work hard together so that our customers receive the best possible service quality. He added, We will establish ties with China and Japan in order to build a solid telecommunications foundation for the Northeast Asian market. Once that has been accomplished, we will promote this business worldwide.
