SK Telecom, a Korea-based telecommunications provider, and phone maker Research In Motion (RIM), have launched the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone in Korea.
The BlackBerry Torch is powered by push-based technology and features new BlackBerry 6 operating system; a combination of a QWERTY keyboard with a full touch screen experience; and supports an array of apps and services to help users stay connected with the people and information, said RIM.
The new 9800 smartphone with BlackBerry 6 provides a redesigned interface that seamlessly works with the touch screen and trackpad.
The company claims, the BlackBerry 6 includes expanded messaging capabilities with features that simplify the management of social networking and RSS feeds (Social Feeds), and provides integrated access to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), Facebook, Twitter and other messaging applications available on the smartphone.
In addition, the smartphone comes with a new universal search feature, which allows users to search through email, messages, contacts, music, videos, and extend searches to the Internet or to discover apps on BlackBerry App World, said the company.
The BlackBerry Torch with BlackBerry 6 features also include: support of high-speed 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) networks around the world; latest generation in Wi-Fi (b/g/n) connectivity; and built-in GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging.
The smartphone also provide a new and rich WebKit-based browser that renders HTML web pages, and supports tabbed browsing, pinch to zoom and an auto-wrap zoom feature; and media player for videos, pictures and music, and a dedicated YouTube app.
