A six month technical trial of the US National ISDN-1 scheme is to start next month. National ISDN-1 is the plan under which the Corporation for Open Systems and the Baby Bell’s Bell Communications Research Inc lab have established what is hoped to be a pan-US ISDN standard. The service is intended to be rolled out in November, although there will be only 24 local exchanges converted to the system by the that time. The new phase of the plan follows the finish of a two-year trial by Rochester, New York-based Eastman Kodak Co, which used it for videoconferencing, telecommuting and still-image transfer.
