The European Space Agency has awarded Sira Ltd a contract to undertake design and production work for its optical intersatellite communications links projects. Chislehurst, Kent based Sira’s Aerospace & Defence Systems Division is starting work on the detector unit of the semiconductor laser inter satellite link experiment tracking sensor, Silex, for the Space & Communications Division of British Aerospace Plc. The tracking sensor is part of an optical satellite link transmit and receive terminal, measuring the errors in the alignment of the terminal with its counterpart on the satellite with which it is communicating.
