Amersham-based Sipher Designs Ltd is now shipping an interface conversion unit which enables IBM’s 3750 and 1750 PABXs to talk to hosts from other manufacturers, such as DEC, ICL and Wang: Sipher’s unit communicates with the PABX in transparent mode emulating an IBM host, and call-recording records are translated into printable ASCII characters for forward transmission to the user’s call-logging or management information system; the Sipher conversion unit is priced at UKP3,500, and IBM users planning to replace their 3750s with the 8750 will be able to use the unit without any re-programming of the handler software for the RS-232 feed.
