Emulex Corp and Sintrom Electronics Plc, Reading have signed a UK distributorship agreement that Sintrom describes as part of its planned expansion into the DEC market. Emulex specialises in DEC-compatible disk and tape subsystems, and communication controllers. This agreement covers the Emulex range of drives and disk arrays for DEC’s Q-Bus, Unibus, BI bus, and cluster systems. The SD894 RA-Series compatible 8 disk drive is also included, and with 1.95Gb, it is claimed to offer 50% more capacity than any other single spindle standard disk interface drive. Emulex’ SD89X drives have a built-in standard disk interface, and this enables them to be used with Digital Storage Architecture controllers. Sintrom is also distributing Emulex’s Hierarchical Storage Controller-compatible data channel cards, the full range of communications controller, and the P4000 Ethernet terminal servers. The company is already an Emulex distributor via its subsidiary Micro Technology Ltd, which has been distributing Emulex products for seven years. Sintrom’s recent history has been troubled by resignations and departures. Terry Cave, formerly chief executive officer, left in January, and he was followed earlier this month by finance and marketing directors, F McQuattie and John Watts (CI No 1,380). Ian Hillier-Brook was appointed chief executive of Sintrom in February, having previously worked with both DEC and Emulex.
