IBM Corp, currently merging its parallel and RS/6000 groups, said it has a single system image for its Power Parallel SPs in sight, but is not saying when it will arrive. It will use its own interconnect to link symmetric multiprocessing PowerPC 620 nodes when they arrive, work it said is distinct from the RS/6000’s planned clustering techniques. The merged RS/6000 workstation and server and SP2 division, now being run by former Power Parallel Systems Division chief Irving Wladawsky-Berger, is set for an overhaul to reconcile the positions of staff from the formerly separate organisations, including Power Parallel assistant general manager Ben Barnes and RS/6000 assistant general manager Jeff Mason.
