Singapore Telecom Ltd and the Television Corporation of Singapore say they will soon offer Asia’s first Internet access to services delivering video of as high quality as television. Trial of the service, which will use 6Mbps Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, is to start in 40 homes in March, and in June, a three-month commercial trial will start in 300 homes with the broadcaster providing the content and Singapore Telecom providing the network and infrastructure. Internet users will be able to download full motion video rather than the jerky, out-of-sync pictures that make up most of the video content now down-loadable. Planned services include films, previews, educational material, videos and games.
