One-year-old Simware Ltd, the Reading, Berkshire subsidiary of Ottawa-based Simware Inc, has upgraded its SIMPC micro-to mainframe link, and released a new piece of communications software, calling it SimHLLAPI. The main feature of SIMPC Version 5 is its single interface with IBM’s Systems Application Architecture and Common User Access compatibility. The company also claims that improved data compression techniques have reduced reponse time over an async line by an average of 35%. SIMPC provides access to 12 concurrent host sessions, and offers the options of sending print files to host and local printers, or printers on local area networks. It supports SNA/SDLC, co-ax, X25, and local area networks on personal computers and PS/2s running under MS-DOS 2.0 up. Supported mainframe systems include MVS/VTAM, CICS, VM/GCS, CMS, and TSO. SimHLLAPI is a programming interface that accesses applications via asynchronous lines, local net gateways, and co-ax boards. Micro users can access mainframe applications such as Profs/PASF from remote locations and non-3270 connections. Both were developed in Canada and will be out here in January; SimHLLAPI is UKP200 or UKP75 as an upgrade.
